Apple Pecan Dressing Recipe

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I had a friend ask me if I had a good recipe for dressing. This is one that can be used year round. I just made it with a pork roast. It was really good. Dressing isn’t just for turkey.

Apple Pecan Dressing Recipe

Apple Sage Cornbread Dressing 01

Preheat oven to 375°. Using a large cookie sheet 18” x 13” spread bread and cornbread pieces.

Bake for 10 minutes stirring after 5 minutes to dry out pieces. Set aside.

Sauté butter, onions and apples until tender. About 5 to 10 minutes.

Add salt, pepper, pecans, poultry seasoning and sage. Continue cooking 1 minute.

Add to bread and cornbread and mix.  Mix together milk, egg and 2 cups of broth. Stir until all moistened. Add more broth for desired moisture.

Spray 13” x 11” baking dish with spray cooking oil. Spread evenly into baking dish.

Bake uncovered at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 Recipe Cornbread cut in 1” pieces (6 to 8 cups)
  • 4 – 6 medium slices Bread cut in 1” pieces (2 cups)
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 Large Onion, diced
  • 3 Large Tart Apples, diced I used Granny Smith and Pink Lady
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Poultry Seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Sage, chopped fine
  • 1 cup Pecans, chopped
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream
  • 2-3 cups Chicken or Vegetable Broth
